What happened to the Walker Art Center?

Most of the original structure remains (though the old Guthrie Theater was completely torn-down). There was a *Large* addition built up the hill to the south along Hennepin Ave. You can probably Google pictures. It is huge & cubic, and looks like a 60s sculpture project -- probably the design looked cute as a small architect's model.

I don't know the political dynamics of having 2 large art museum institutions competing in the same city/metro area. They both exist. I don't know if they co-exist well.

They do, as their missions are completely different they have nothing to do with eachother and are not competing. MIA falls more along the traditional line of art and antiquity and the Walker focuses on modernism on up. Think of the dynamic between the Met and MOMA in NYC.

Also remember that while MCAD shares lot space with MIA, they are not affiliated. They used to be, but broke in the very late 1970s.

Hope to see you at the event today! :)
